How to Live a More Inspired Life

How can you live a more inspired life?

Inspired living  means waking up every day and being present in the moment. It is when you actually to choose to live instead of being carried away through the current of life without a purpose or direction. By being more aware of what you are doing right now, you can see where you want to be tomorrow.

Have you ever just gone through the motions of life as if on autopilot?  I’ve been guilty of it before. As a nursing major in college I would wake up, go to school, eat, study and sleep like clockwork. Sure I did other things too but I felt that I was stuck in my everyday routine without a chance of breaking the cycle.

When I finally graduated and started working as a pediatric nurse that cycle broke. And yet, I was still lost. I had never developed any hobbies in college and now when I had free time on my hands, I didn’t know what to do with myself. I became keenly aware of the fact that the years were slowly slipping by me.

I had so many dreams that I wanted to accomplish “some day.” I finally got to thinking…”Why can’t that some day be tomorrow? Or next week or next month?” What was I waiting for? Nothing. I was waiting for nothing and I didn’t even realize it. Now that I have my education and career on track, I decided to take my future into my own hands. I decided to start really start living a more inspired life.

So here are things I’ve been doing to try and live a more inspired life. I hope that you find these helpful because we all deserve to live the best life we possibly can.

Time for yourself

Sometimes we are so busy with our lives and taking care of other people that we forget to take care of ourselves. Set up little dates with yourself where you can just sit and read a book or go take a bubble bath. Take time away from others and your responsibilities and focus on your own well-being. You would be surprised by how much better you feel after you slow down and catch your breath.

Forgive others

Holding on to negative emotions and anger is more exhausting than it is worth. Take it from someone who has had to purge her life of the people who weren’t there for the right reasons. Make peace with a situation or a person that hurt you and try your best to get past it. I’m not saying you need to forget what happened, but rise above the anger and just try your best to let it go. You do you.

Take accountability

You are the author of your own story. You get to make your own choices and thus your own mistakes. Learn from your mistakes and hold yourself accountable when you screw up. Own up to it. If you are able to be honest with yourself then I promise you will see yourself more clearly. Also, don’t forget to reward yourself for your successes, too!

Take charge of your own life

Work hard. Play hard. Things aren’t just going to magically fall into your lap if you don’t first work for them. Set goals and make a plan to crush those goals. Do what makes you happy regardless of what other people think!

Find your own purpose

Find your purpose and be inspired to achieve your dreams! What makes you keep moving forward? Do you want to be the CEO of a major company? Go for it. Do you want to be a stay at home mom? Do that. Your purpose will not be the same as the next person and I don’t expect it to be.  In my personal opinion, its not satisfying just to exist through life without a purpose. Love the life you are living!

Don’t Settle

You get one life to live and you deserve to everything you have hoped for. Don’t choose to settle for something just because the payout sounded better at the time. Live the best life you can possibly live.

I am such a huge proponent of traveling! The world is your oyster. Every time I come home from a trip, I feel slightly more enlightened about the world around me. Nothing is more inspiring than seeing other lands and cultures and people different from your own. Traveling is the only thing that you can do where the experiences you had makes you far richer than the money you spent to get there.

Stop Dwelling on the Past

Stop beating yourself up for things that happened in the past. The person you were yesterday isn’t the person you are today and it sure isn’t the person you’re going to be tomorrow. Learn form the past and plan for the future, all the while enjoying your present. Be a boss day in and day out!

Be flexible and embrace change

I honestly think change is one of the hardest things for me. At some point or another every single one of us has gone through some pretty big life changes. Whether its going away to college, your first job, changing career paths, or something else, change is inevitable. While it can be scary, change can open doors you never thought existed. It might bring you something you never even dreamed of.

Enjoy yourself

Last but not least, enjoy yourself! Don’t take yourself too seriously. Do you know how exhausting it would be to try and be perfect 24/7? Kick back. Do something silly. If you do something dumb, it just makes for a great story and a few laughs down the road.
In the end, life is only as good as you make it. But don’t forget…your life is your life. It’s not anyone else’s. How do you plan on living an inspired life? It’s taken me almost 25 years to figure out what I want out of my life but I think I’m on the right path now. Where do you see your path taking you?
